Rivals Unite for the good of the All-Star Game

The Midsummer Classic is about showcasing the best and most talked about players in the game of baseball.  This year, one of the most talked about stories is that of Evan Gattis.  His is a story worthy of the silver screen.  On top of his incredible journey to get to the Majors, he is having a fantastic rookie campaign.  Lately, rookie stars have been the talk of the All-Star Break The hope of Braves fans everywhere is that Gattis gets the nod this year as a National League representative.  There is only one problem, he isn't on the ballot and needs to be written-in.  This has not been a problem for Braves fans, but what about fans of other teams?  Do they want to see this sensation get the spotlight for a few days in July?  We always hope other fans see things the way we do, but that isn't always the case.

Not so for Mets fans.  I was approached by Mets Die-Hard Brian Erni with a proposition.  Mets fans have their own issue this year.  It seems The San Francisco Giants fan base picked 2013 to stuff the ballots.  That doesn't look good for the rest of the league, but the New York National League club in particular.  David Wright is trailing Pablo Sandoval in the voting.  The results so far at 3rd base are as follows:

This is the trend throughout the voting as San Francisco players are holding either first or second place positions everywhere save for the outfield.  However, all 3 Giants outfielders are in the top 11.  This is ballot stuffing at its finest ladies and gentleman.  But this is a huge problem seeing as how the All-Star Game will be held at Citi Field this season.  David Wright is the unquestionable face of the host team.  It's only fair that he get to start.  So a deal was struck and I vowed to help the Mets fans in their quest to get their franchise player in the starting lineup where he belongs.  In return, Mets fans will write in the rookie star for the Braves.

Evan Gattis is an unbelievable long shot to get into the starting lineup for the NL All-Stars, but that shouldn't be the goal here for Braves fans.  The goal is to get him so many write-in votes that he can't be ignored.  Get the media talking, get Twitter and Facebook talking.  The Mets and Braves have always been fiercely competitive but there has also been a respect there.  This is the time to show that respect in a big way.  David Wright can start for the National League with the help of the enormous Braves fan base.  Evan Gattis can get tremendous recognition with New York backing him.

Use the graphic below to get the attention of fans and the media.  Let's get MLB Network, ESPN, New York and Atlanta papers talking about it.  If you have connections into these pipelines, use them!  Let is be known that for a month in the Summer of 2013, two rivals came together to bring something grand to the best All-Star Game in sports.  Let's make a difference.  Let rivals unite for the good of our All-Star Game!

Making some shirts!

Although I am still working hard on the Diamond Uniform Database and perfecting my template, I took some time to design shirts.  I'll post pictures when they come in.  I'm very excited because this is the first time I have ever ordered shirts.  I'm using http://www.bluecotton.com/ to order these.  There have been a few who have asked because they want to make shirts too.  If you are going to go through that process, these guys are who you should use.  I am excited to get my first order in!

In other news, I am going to bring back the 365 Days of Uniforms very soon. I just want to get a bunch of them done before I start again and right now I'm concentrating on completing 2012-2013 uniforms.  Among those is the uniform the Red Sox wore for Boston:

I think it's a great uniform.  That's it for now!  Thanks for reading!

No Computer!

I'm going crazy over here!  I've been without a computer since Friday and I hardly know what to do with myself before the Braves game comes on!  If they have a day off before I get it back I may go insane!

Ok, enough of that.  I'm just sending out a friendly reminder that I am currently not able to create anything new and as soon as I get my computer back, I'll be hard at work trying to catch up on what the teams have been wearing.  There are only a few combinations I haven't created yet.  Hope all is well and As soon as I get the computer back, you will know because you will see new stuff!

THEY DO EXIST!

The controversial 2013 BP cap for the Atlanta Braves does exist!  So far there are 6 that I have seen.  One of my Twitter followers just got one in the mail earlier today.  There are 5 more that have sold or are selling on Ebay.  The highest so far went for $192 on March 24.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few months, you know that this hat was the cause of a lot of controversy due to the image of the 'Laughing Brave' on the front.  Some deliberately called it the 'Screaming Savage' or 'Screaming Indian'  logo to cause more controversy and gain a more sympathetic audience towards their personal cause.  I personally contacted several  writers who brushed off what I had to say.  One even told me that even though that's not the official name, I'm calling it that because that's what it looks like.

That is just a small sample of some people bending the truth to further their own cause.  I wouldn't get so upset if people would just call it what it is and let others decide for themselves.  I'll tell you straight up, I like this hat.  I don't believe it is racist.  It is certainly not a screaming savage.  But any one of you reading this today is entitled to your own opinion as long as you respect mine as well.  I can't buy one for $192 but I would buy one if I saw it for the normal price a hat goes for.  Below is an active Ebay auction that will end on March 31.

I don't want to go on a rant about the controversy that was drummed up by a few white guys who are trying to tell Native Americans how to feel.  I thought I was the first to write about these being sold on Ebay, but it looks like Uni-Watch spotted them before I wrote this up.  It's still worth the story on here though, since it is a uniform item.

365 Days of Uniforms - Day 78

This entry will have a San Francisco flavor.  Taking center stage is the Giants uniform from 1983.  On each side of that uniform are the jerseys worn by the American and National League for the 2007 All-Star Game. San Francisco hosted the event to they get the home version.  I wanted to go with Oakland in the road version but all that green would have looked terrible with the orange (I'm looking at 'U' University of Miami) So I went with Baltimore as the road representative for the 2007 Mid-Summer Classic.  On each end of the 5 uniforms are the special jerseys worn for Opening Day.  These versions are from 2011 and 2013.  I think the 2013 version looks pretty sharp and I can't wait to see them on the field.

I just thought I would pay my respects to the soon to be former World Champion Giants as I expect to see Atlanta wearing special jerseys for Opening Day in 2014!

42

I just wanted to put this out there; 42 is coming out in a couple of weeks.  There are 2 main reasons I want to watch this movie.  Of course I want to see the extraordinary story of Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey told on the big screen.  This movie should have been made a long time ago.  Anyone close to the story will tell you that Robinson and Rickey needed each other in order for that to work.  Robinson's struggle coming up in the league is well documented.  This was a time where baseball was taking the lead on race relations in the United States.  Branch Rickey picked the right man to team up with for this great experiment.  I can't wait to see this movie for that reason.

The other reason is...the UNIFORMS!  In the trailers I saw the Pirates and Phillies so far to go along with the Dodgers beautiful uniforms from 1947.  Additional pictures reveal the Reds.  I hope we are treated to the Boston Braves and St. Louis Cardinals uniforms of the time as well.  From what I've seen, the uniforms are very well done.  I can't wait to see these beauties on the big screen.  Judge me, I'm a uniform geek!
